Nortek Air Solutions now offers the Niagara Framework® Controls Environment

Tridium’s best-of-class solution is now part of NAS’ product offering and it will help roll out its control unification goal for custom commercial equipment.

Nortek Air Solutions (NAS), the largest manufacturer of custom HVAC equipment in North America, is now featuring equipment controllers powered by the Niagara Framework® as part of its custom commercial equipment product offering.

Manufactured by Tridium, Richmond, Va., the Niagara Framework is a leading-edge controls environment allowing NAS engineers to efficiently deploy complex algorithms and new feature sets across its full product line. When paired with best-in-class Niagara Framework-enabled hardware controllers, new features are possible such as single point of communications via Internet connectivity or Web-serving capabilities. The flexible Niagara Framework provides powerful, scalable computational advantages and offers secure communication options via multiple application programming interfaces. Incorporating these new technologies in NAS custom HVAC units allows for interoperability and connections with a wide variety of devices and sub-systems, such as a facility’s other NAS equipment, but also all popular building management system (BMS) protocols and IoT (Internet of Things) platforms.

While Niagara Framework-enabled platforms are the future for NAS equipment, the 84-year-old HVAC manufacturer will maintain full technical support of its legacy control systems on existing equipment. Scalable architecture makes the integration of custom NAS equipment into larger facilities, multi-building campuses, and large-scale control systems easier than ever. The architecture’s powerful feature set enables information aggregation, including real-time data, history, and alarms within a single unified application. The system data and unit operational status can be viewed on a unit mounted HMI or with optional features via a standard Web browser anywhere on the globe in either raw text or a rich graphical format.

“Building on the power feature set of the Niagara Framework completes our goal of offering one standardized hardware platform and programming environment that can be leveraged across all NAS facilities, while also being flexible enough to accommodate simple to complex systems,” said Joe Naccarello, Group Vice President–Sales and Customer Operations, NAS, St. Louis.

NAS’ new control architecture will allow: 1) facility HVAC equipment interoperability on a single source platform for building owners; 2) specification flexibility for consulting engineers; 3) and plug-and-play simplicity with the BMS for the installing/service HVAC contractor.

The addition of the Niagara Framework is further advancing NAS’s position as the leading custom commercial equipment manufacturer that enables building owners to employ the HVAC industry’s most advanced hardware and software platform to manage their facilities.
