APPLE VALLEY — Phyn, the leading intelligent water company, is proud to announce that its first product – Phyn Plus, smart water assistant + shutoff – has been honored with the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019. Phyn is a joint venture of Belkin International, a global leader in consumer technology, networking and the Internet of Things; and Uponor, a leading supplier of residential plumbing.
Phyn was recognized for the outstanding design and innovation of Phyn Plus, a single connected smart water monitor that detects leaks anywhere in a home and can automatically shut off the main water to prevent costly damage. The device also monitors water use, giving homeowners insight into their water consumption, so they can conserve and save.
Backed by Uponor and Belkin International, the company recently announced the launch of Phyn Plus in Europe. The product is available in the United States and Canada, as well as in Finland, Sweden, France and Spain.
“We are honored to be recognized by the internationally-regarded Red Dot Awards,” says Henry Chen, Director of Product Development at Phyn. “We take great pride in the strength and innovation of our product design, and this award highlights the meticulously thoughtful design of the Phyn Plus – a truly groundbreaking and reliable solution for leak detection and water conservation.”
Phyn Plus’ minimal, modern aesthetic elevates plumbing into the realm of the connected home, while seamlessly blending into the installation environment. An RGB LED panel runs the length of the device, simulating the flow of water, to provide device status feedback to users.
The industrial design of Phyn Plus was created in partnership with Thorben Neu, principal at Ritual Creative in Los Angeles. The device was also designed in cooperation with Uponor, along with insight from 25 master plumbers, to ensure that it universally fits into any home environment.
The Red Dot Award: Product Design is one of the world’s largest design competitions. This year, designers and manufacturers from 55 countries entered more than 5,500 products in the competition. An international jury of experts assesses each entry, based on its level of innovation, functionality, formal quality, longevity and ergonomics.
Red Dot Award recipients will be honored during the awards ceremony on July 8 at Essen’s Aalto Theater as part of the Red Dot Gala. At the subsequent Designers’ Night party, the Red Dot laureates will receive their certificates and Phyn Plus will join the exhibition “Design on Stage” in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, which showcases all of the award-winning products. Phyn Plus will also be featured in the Red Dot Design Yearbook, online and on the Red Dot Design App.
